This
adventure is a fascinating blend of exotic Peruvian habitats and exciting
whitewater rafting. We will acclimatize in the 12,000 ft. elevation
of Lake Titicaca where we will visit the uique culture of the Quechua
and Aymara people, who keep their ancient traditions alive. Departing
from Juliaca and descending along the east slope of the Andes we will
launch our rafts at the edge of the cloud forest, where it precipitously
drops to the tropical rain forest. After navigate the exciting Class
III and IV whitewater, we will finally float out to our camp close
to the Macaw Lick in the middle of the Tambopata Nature Reserve. Every
day after an exciting day of shooting rapids there is plenty of time
for exploring, hiking, bird watching, swimming of just plain relaxing.
Each night our camps are pitched on pristine river beaches at the
edge of the jungle. It all adds up to an incredible Green Life Adventure.
Duration: 12 days/ 11 nights
SEASON: Between June and October
LEVEL: Moderate- difficult rafting. Experience suggested.
GRADING: Class III - V. Experience is suggested and good physical
condition is essential.
DAY 01 JULIACA (PUNO) - Arrive
to the airport and transfer to your hotel. We will have a welcome
dinner and briefing that night.
DAY 02 JULIACA - SANDIA - An early
morning departure in our bus will take us across the altiplano from
Puno into the Carabaya Ridge. This scenic drive is alive with birdlife
and scattered Quechua villages. Crossing a 15,000 ft. high pass we
will begin our descent into the cloud forest. Arriving at the Pre-Inca
town of Cuyo Cuyo we pitch our camp. (B,L,D).
DAY 03 SANDIA - PUTINA PUNKU -
Continuing our drive into the cloud forest we will finally arrive
at the headwaters of the Tambopata river. Here just below San Juan
de Loro or Putina, we will put-in for the rafting. (B,L,D).
DAYS 04-05 TAMBOPATA RIVER - As
we leave the last traces of civilization we will enter to the pristine
rain forest using the river as a highway. We will camp on a sandy
beach along the way where we will see plenty of wild animal tracks.

DAYS 06-10 TAMBOPATA RIVER - MACAW LICK (river) - Surrounded
by lush vegetation, we will run Class III and IV rapids. Possibly
there will be good chances to see monkeys, capybaras, tapirs, and
giant river otters among other animals. Our journey will end at the
macaw lick. (B,L,D).
DAY 11 MACAW LICK - PUERTO MALDONADO- At the crack of dawn
we will see a rowdy crowd of macaws with their variegated brilliance
spattering the clay riverbank. Later a dug-put motor canoe will take
us to our jungle lodge in Puerto Maldonado. (B,L)
DAY 12 PUERTO MALDONADO - After
breakfast transfer to the airport for your flight out of Puerto Maldonado.
